Getting to Costa Rica has never been easier! With two international airports to choose from you can fly direct into San Jose (SJO) or Liberia (LIR). Hotel Bula Bula is a one hour drive from Liberia and a 4 hour drive from San Jose. If you are traveling from within Costa Rica both Sansa and Nature Air have several daily flights into Tamarindo.

There is information on flight times from various cities, car rentals, buses and domestic airlines. For your convenience we have included driving directions that you can print out and a Frequently Asked Questions page that includes travel tips and helpful links. Car Rental Agencies*
*Costa Rica is a very safe country to visit. As with any third world country there is some petty crime mostly aimed at tourism. When traveling in a rental car it is best not to leave anything in the vehicle unattended.
Bus Lines (To Tamarindo – both are air conditioned and very comfortable)
If you are flying or busing into Playa Tamarindo, we can make arrangements with the taxis to pick you up.
Domestic Airlines (From San Jose to Tamarindo)
Please ensure that your domestic flight or bus choice can accommodate surfboards. All have limitations on size and quantity at certain times of the year. We’ve had a few surfers (during high season) rent a taxi since the domestic airline and buses could not guarantee that they could accommodate surfboards. A taxi from the San Jose airport is about $150 and about $100 from Liberia. Of course, if you rent your own vehicle, the point is moot.
